MUSA RIO

Restaurant web design · Coffee, brunch and drinks · São Conrado, Rio de Janeiro2024

MUSA Rio was born from the love of Rachel Apollonio, Brazilian, and Matthew, Australian, for great coffee — an idea brought from Bali to the heart of São Conrado. Today there are four addresses across Rio: São Conrado, Ipanema, Village Mall and Marquês de São Vicente.

L’Atelier 54 handled the web design and development and takes care of the hosting: a home of their own on the internet that introduces the place, shows the menu and walks visitors to the table — at any of the four locations.

A website for a restaurant that was already a meeting point

Specialty coffee, brunch, food and signature drinks from late afternoon into the night: by the time MUSA had become a Rio meeting point, its audience was arriving from Instagram. What was missing was an address of its own — one place on the internet holding everything, not depending on anyone else’s feed.

The site was built around the three questions people ask before leaving home: where it is, when it opens and what is on the menu. Everything else on the page exists to answer one of them.

Showing the coffee, the food and the view without slowing the site

You choose a restaurant with your eyes, and big imagery is exactly what slows a website down the most. Since almost every visit arrives on a phone — often out on the street, on mobile data, deciding where to eat — every extra second is someone giving up before the page opens.

The answer came from structure, not from cutting imagery: modern formats, staged loading and a hierarchy that makes clear what has to appear first. The result is a page that opens fast without losing its appetite.

From Instagram to the table, in São Conrado and Ipanema

The published site brings together the four locations with addresses and maps, the full menu, opening hours for each house, Rachel and Matthew’s story, the events area and every way to get in touch — suppliers and careers included.

L’Atelier 54 still handles development and hosting, and the credit sits in MUSA’s own footer. It is the same care we put into any website for a restaurant, café or bar.
